NORMAN, Okla. -- The 2008 University of Oklahoma baseball season team kicked off the new season with the Fifth Annual Diamond Dinner on Friday night.
A crowd of 300 people were on hand to celebrate the program's past success and prepare for the upcoming season. Former Sooners Reggie Willits (2002-03) and Bob Stephenson (1948-1950) received special recognition as the 2008 honorees.
Kenny Mossman, Associate Athletics Director for Communications, emceed the event, which was held at the Student Ballroom on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
Following their recognition, Willits and Stephenson participated in a question and answer session and received framed Sooner jerseys.
In addition, OU head coach Sunny Golloway previewed the season in between videos which highlighted each class of the 2008 squad.

"We really want to thank Reggie Willits and Bob Stephenson for coming back tonight for this event," said Golloway. "It was an honor to have them on hand and all the past alumni to celebrate the great tradition of this program.
"This is always a great way to kick off our season and it is needless to say that we are excited to get going."
The Sooners began team practices on Friday with an indoor session in the afternoon due to inclement weather in Norman.
OU will open the 2008 season at UCLA for a three-game set beginning on Friday, Feb. 22. The season opener is slated for an 8 p.m. (CT) start and will be broadcast on the Sooners' flagship station, KOKC 1520 AM.
The 2008 home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 26 at L. Dale Mitchell Park. The Sooners will host Arkansas Pine Bluff at 3 p.m. and the two will conclude the two-game series on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
SEASON TICKETS ON SALE
Season tickets are on sale and are available for purchase online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (800) 456-GoOU. The OU Athletics Ticket Office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located on the plaza level of the Asp Avenue parking garage.
The Sooners will host 29 games at L. Dale Mitchell Park this season with the home opener slated for Tuesday, Feb. 26 against Arkansas Pine Bluff at 3 p.m.
In addition to the Golden Lions, OU will also host North Dakota State, Western Illinois, Washington State, UT-Arlington, Dallas Baptist, TCU and Wichita State in non-conference play.
In Big 12 action, the Sooners will entertain Baylor (March 28-30), Texas (April 4-6), Missouri (April 18-20) and Kansas State (May 9-11). The Tigers (No. 6), Bears (No. 15) and Longhorns (No. 16) were all recently ranked in the top 20 by Baseball America.
Reserved season tickets are available for $130 and general admission season tickets are available for $90. Discounted general admission season tickets are available to OU faculty/staff and senior citizens for $80. Single game ticket prices are $10 for reserved seats and $7 for general admission. Youth and senior citizens single game general admission tickets are $5.00.
Single game tickets will go on sale in mid-February.
