NORMAN, Okla. -- Soonersports.com brings fans the 13th installment of the Baseball Newcomer Spotlights with a focus on junior catcher Rhett Welsh.
In preparation for the 2009 season, Soonersports.com will help fans get to know the new faces around the diamond at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Welsh comes to Norman after spending the last two seasons at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. The junior catcher hit .289 last season for the Plainsmen with 11 doubles and 21 RBIs.
Throughout the rest of the semester, SoonerSports.com will feature one of the Sooners' 15 newcomers that will join a group of 18 letterwinners from the 2008 team that advanced to the Tempe Regional Finals before falling to then-No. 4 Arizona State.
Each spotlight will include an updated bio, Q&A session and videos of each player in action from the Red/White Series and a scouting report from OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.
Welsh is a native of Arvada, Colo. where he attended Standley Lake H.S. Welsh started all 25 games of his senior season and hit .456 with eight homers.
