Sooners Earn No. 2 in Latest BCS

November 30, 2008 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma earned the No. 2 slot in the all-important BCS standings released Sunday afternoon (November 30). The Sooners (11-1) defeated Oklahoma State, 61-41, in Stillwater on Saturday night to complete the regular season.

OU, Texas and Texas Tech finished with identical 7-1 records in the Big 12 South with each team losing to one of the other two. The Big 12 Conference tie-breaker was the BCS standings and Oklahoma's strength of schedule and body of work throughout the season moved the Sooners past Texas for the coveted No. 2 slot.

The BCS standings formula consists of three components, each weighted equally: the USA Today Coaches Poll, the Harris Interactive College Football Poll and an average of six computer rankings:

Anderson & Hester | Billingsley | Colley Matrix | Massey | Sagarin | Wolfe

Oklahoma has been ranked in the top five of the BCS more weeks than any other team (43) and No. 1 more weeks than any other team (18). OU was also ranked No. 4 in the latest AP poll, extending its record for weeks in the top five to 366. No team has spent more time at No. 1, in the Top 5 or in the Top 10 than Oklahoma:
