NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team got all-around contributions on Saturday afternoon to defeat the Iowa State Cyclones, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-22), at McCasland Field House. The Sooners (12-15, 8-11 Big 12) got team-highs from a different player in all five statistical categories. The Cyclones fell to 17-12 overall and an even 9-9 in Big 12 play.

Led offensively by Bridget Laplante's 13 kills, the Sooners got seven kills each from freshman Caitlin Higgins and redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu. Sophomore Sarah Freudenrich added six, while Suzy Boulavsky tacked on five. Freudenrich led the team with a .455 hitting percentage. As a team, the Sooners hit .233, their third highest clip during conference play this year. Laplante hit .345 for OU. Freshman Brianne Barker led the team with 27 assists.

Defensively, senior Lacy Barnes had 22 digs in her final home match for Oklahoma. Laplante and Higgins added nine digs each, and freshman Danielle Alva added five. The Sooners had a superb day at the net with 11 total blocks. Ekwerekwu tied a career high with eight block assists to lead the Sooners. Boulavsky tied season highs in block solos (1), block assists (5) and total blocks (6).

Victoria Henson was the only Iowa State player to tally double-digit kills with 15. Ashley Mass added 18 digs and Kaylee Manns had 32 assists. Diane Kieger was the Cyclones' top blocker with four block assists. The Sooners held ISU to a .115 hitting percentage and 5.5 blocks.

The two teams played evenly for most of the match. In the opening set, the score was tied six times. After the final tie at 10-all, Oklahoma pounded out seven consecutive points to go up 17-10. From there, there Sooners went on the win 25-17. The second set mirrored the first with nine ties and four lead changes. With the score tied at 18-all, OU went up 22-18 and forced the Cyclones to take a timeout. Out of the short break, the Sooners held their advantage and won 25-20.

Following the 10-minute intermission, the third set was tight throughout. Despite just five ties, the two squads kept each other to within striking distance. The pivotal point for the Sooners came when OU held a 13-12 advantage. After an exceptional dig by Barnes to keep the rally alive, the Sooners were able to send the ball across the net. On the return attack, Laplante put the ball down on a pass from Barker to put Oklahoma up 14-12. With the momentum swing back in their corner, the Sooners never trailed again and took the set 25-22.

Oklahoma closes out the 2008 season Wednesday evening, traveling to Boulder, Colo. to face Colorado in a 7:30 p.m. CST contest from the Coors Event/Conference Center.
