NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team continues its final homestand of the season Wednesday evening. The Sooners (11-14, 7-10 Big 12) host the Texas A&M Aggies (12-14, 7-9 Big 12) at 7 p.m. CT from McCasland Field House. Currently in eighth-place in the conference standings, Oklahoma must win to keep its postseason hopes alive.
Shuttle service from the Lloyd Noble Center parking lot begins at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday. Tickets remain for $7 (adults) and $5(youth/letterwinners) and can be purchased at the door. The first 250 fans to Wednesday's contest receive an OU volleyball coozie.
Although the Aggies have an advantage in the overall series, the Sooners have made considerable gains in the past six meetings. Of OU's five series wins, four have come under current head coach Santiago Restrepo. The two squads met earlier this season in College Station with Texas A&M pulling out a 3-2 win. Junior Bridget Laplante led OU with 14 kills and Freshman Caitlin Higgins and sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu each added 12 kills.
The Sooners are coming off a bye weekend and a win against Kansas last Wednesday evening at home. Oklahoma was led by Laplante's eighth double-double of the season. The Tomball, Texas native tallied 14 kills and 25 digs for the Sooners. Laplante also added to block assists. Freshman setter Brianne Barker recorded her team-leading 15th double-double of the year with 46 assists and 12 digs. Barker added two service aces and two block assists.
Sarah Ammerman had a match-high 13 kills and Darla Donaldson and Jennifer Banse added 10 kills each to lead Texas A&M to a 3-0 sweep victory over Baylor on Sunday afternoon in Waco. The Aggies upended Iowa State at home on Nov. 12, winning 3-1.
The Sooners close out the home schedule Saturday, hosting Iowa State at 3 p.m. CT. Admission to the match is free. Oklahoma closes out the season on Wednesday, Nov. 26 in Colorado for a 6:30 p.m. CT matchup with the Buffaloes.
