3:17 p.m. | Winding Down
Not much happening here as this game nears
the final minute. We just want to take this opportunity
to thank everyone for following along. We hope you
enjoy the blog. Remember, you can send us your comments
or questions by emailing
soonersideline@gmail.com
3:04 p.m. | Speaking of Doubling Up
That's Lewis second interception of the day
and third of his career. Lewis two interception returns
today, 27 and 29 yards, are also Oklahoma's longest
of the season. This guy can do everything.
3:01 p.m. | Lewis Doubles Up Again
Linebacker Travis Lewis has 14 tackles so
far today, his third double-digit tackle game of the
year. Lewis recorded a career-high 19 stops vs. Texas
two weeks ago.
2:56 p.m. | Turnover on Downs
Confirmation on that last play. It was ruled
that the ball hit the ground so no interception. OU
takes over on downs at the one.
2:51 p.m. | Friday Night Lights
Off topic a little bit, assistant equipment
director Brad Camp checks in for his usual two cents
for the blog: Don Billingsley, the real Don Billingsley,
running back for the Permian Panthers in
Friday
Night Lights, is in attendance at today's game.
Not sure what the connection is, but thought it was
interesting.
2:46 p.m. | It's Been Awhile
The pace has definitely slowed here in the
second half. After such a frenetic pace in the second
quarter, we never thought it would take nearly 20 minutes
on the game clock and approximately an hour and 15
minutes in real time between OU scores.
2:40 p.m. | Brown & Madu
Note from Luke: The formation before the timeout
was called, Madu and Chris Brown lined up in the backfield
for the first time all season.
2:37 p.m. | Point Taken
The 90 combined points here in the third quarter
are already a high this season for the Sooners and
an opponent. Previous high was the 80 points scored
in the 45-35 loss to Texas.
2:31 p.m. | Loading Zone
Phil Loadholt had a nice lead block on that
19-yard rush by Chris Brown. Wait, I put up a nice
note on the offensive line and that's followed by a
personal foul and holding call.
2:25 p.m. | Crowd Thins
Although K-State just punched in another score,
the crowd has thinned since halftime. Both ends of
the east upper deck are nearly void of fans. The OU
fans are holding steady in the southeast corner.
2:20 p.m. | Sack Note
Kansas State had given up only four sacks
all season going into this game. The Sooners have two
(Gerald McCoy and Keenan Clayton) here in the third
quarter.
2:14 p.m. | McCoy in Sacks
Gerald McCoy has his sixth sack of the season.
Only Dusty Dvoracek had more sacks in a season at defensive
tackle in the Bob Stoops' era. Dvoracek had seven sacks
in the 2003 season.
2:07 p.m. | CBS Chimes In
Quick quote from CBS: "The OU offense
is clicking as good as any other offense in the country.
Sam Bradford has looked as good as anyone in the country
and the offensive line is finally playing assertive."
2:03 p.m. | Second Half Underway
Quick glance at Big 12 scores: Texas Tech
is smoking Kansas in Lawrence, 63-14, in the fourth
quarter while Baylor is up 20-17 on Nebraska in the
fourth quarter in Lincoln.

1:54 p.m. | More First Half Notes
Ryan Broyles 68-yard punt return for Oklahoma's
final touchdown of the half was OU's first punt return
TD since Reggie Smith ran one back against Middle Tennessee
in 2006. Defensive tackle Frank Alexander, who recently
returned from injury, recorded his first sack and first
forced fumble of his career during the first half.
1:46 p.m. | Future Analyst?
More great stuff from our intern Luke: "The double
cornerback blitz has come back for the Sooners in a
big way. Started against Texas a couple of years ago
to contain Vince Young, Dominique Franks was able to
capitalize on the pressure with an interception."
1:39 p.m. | Time to Breathe
Whew... after the feverish pace of the first half,
it's time to catch our breath a little bit. Before
we do, one more note from Mr. Brooks: Surprisingly,
OU's 399 total first-half yards ranks only 14th on
the all-time list for most yards in a half. The record
for yards in a half is 507 vs. Missouri in 1986. Imagine
what that must have looked like.
1:32 p.m. | Unprecedented First Half
Oklahoma's 55 points ties the record for the most points
OU has ever scored in a half, matching the 55 scored
in the second half against K-State in 1942. It is the
most points the Sooners have ever scored in a first
half, surpassing the 52 first-half points against Rice
in 1978. A shout out to stat guru Mike Brooks for those
numbers.
1:26 p.m. | Aging Our Boss
He asked for it. Sr. Associate A.D.
Kenny Mossman just
informed us that current K-State punter D.J. Fulhage's
dad was the punter for the Wildcats during his first
SID gig here in the early 1980s.
1:21 p.m. | Twenty Unanswered
After the Wildcats tied the game at 28 all, OU has
quickly grabbed the momentum right back with 20 unanswered
points. DeMarco Murray now has four touchdowns on the
day.
1:13 p.m. | Don't Blink
Or you might miss something with the rate these two
teams are putting points on the board. Great to see
Gresham find the end zone again. He has now scored
in each of the last three games.
1:10 p.m. | Now That's Funny
Not sure if it came through on the TV broadcast, but
the entire press box busted out in laughter when the
referee got back on his mic to explain, "Correction,
the last play is under further review. As I was explaining
the call on the field I was getting a page."
1:05 p.m. | The Multidimensional Murray
From media relations assistant David Bassity: Entering
the day, DeMarco Murray had zero receiving touchdowns
during his career. With that last score, he now has
two TD catches today. Murray now has 25 total touchdowns
for his career.
1:01 p.m. | The DeMarco Leap
DeMarco Murray's leap on that last big run was a mirror
image of his memorable run against Texas last season.
Remember
that one?
12:55 p.m. | We've Got a Ballgame
With that game-tying score, the Kansas State crowd,
led by their boisterous student section, is definitely
back in the game.
12:52 p.m. | A Record Breaker of Their Own
It seems every week we talk about a new record set
by Sam Bradford. Kansas State has a record-breaking
quarterback of their own in Josh Freeman. Only a junior,
Freeman just set the K-State record for career passing
attempts.
12:48 p.m. | Establishing the Run
Another good observation by Luke back home. The Sooners
are making it a point to establish the run today. OU
has run 18 rushing plays up to this point while only
attempting seven passes.
12:41 p.m. | Freeman an Impressive Specimen
We've grown accustomed to seeing great quarterbacks
week-in and week-out and heard the talk about Josh
Freeman all week, but up close, he is definitely an
impressive specimen. He stands taller than all of the
offensive linemen in front of him. Picture a speedier
Jermaine Gresham at quaterback.
12:37 p.m. | Fast Break Football
Much like they have all year, the Sooner offense is
wasting no time finding the end zone. OU scored on
drives of 1:29, 1:45, 23 and 31 seconds during the
first quarter. Both of K-State's scores were quick
as well, thanks to the big kickoff return and long
pass completion. The Wildcats scoring drives were 1:45
and 56 seconds.
12:32 p.m. | Observations from the Sideline
A couple things we noticed while down on the field
during the first quarter: We believe the Wildcat kicker
who fell down on the onside attempt was a designed
decoy. When OU scored two plays later, the energy of
the K-State crowd completely evaporated.
12:21 p.m. | Another Two-Play Drive
Quentin Chaney and Chris Brown take OU down the field
for another score in two plays. That one took 31 seconds.
12:15 p.m. | Quick Strike
Oklahoma took two plays and 23 seconds to answer that
K-State score with another score of its own. That 23-second
drive was just the fourth-shortest of the season for
OU.
12:04 p.m. | Sooner Blitz
From our savvy assistant Luke Mildren watching the
TV broadcast of the game: Oklahoma has now out-scored
the opposition 131-13 in the first quarter this season.
11:58 a.m. | Power Towel
While we're at a break in the action, be sure to check
out this video courtesy YouTube. Looks like the
power
towel didn't catch on...
11:48 a.m. | Touchdown Sooners
The Sooners start a new streak of scoring on their
first possession of the game with DeMarco Murray's
streak into the end zone. Oklahoma had scored a TD
on every opening drive this season up to the Kansas
game last week in Norman. FSN just ran the impressive
stat that OU has had 37 trips to the red zone with
35 touchdowns this season.
11:47 a.m. | OU on Offense
After that pick by Travis Lewis, OU's offense takes
the field. Quentin Chaney, Ryan Broyles and Juaquin
Iglesias are the starting receivers for the Sooners.
11:42 a.m. | Farr on Bradford
D'Marco Farr on the FOX Sports broadcast claimed Sam
Bradford is the best quarterback in the nation, of
the Bob Stoops era, and by the time he leaves, the
best at OU.
11:37 a.m. | Sooners Take Field
The Sooners just raced onto the field following the "SOONERS" flags.
OU won the toss and deferred. K-State will receive
and defend the north goal. Refs have dispersed across
the field and we're about set to get this game started.
11:32 a.m. | Cheese
Kansas State just brought in Willie the Wildcat for
the traditional cheesy skit to open the game. This
time, someone dressed in crimson with an OU logo in
tape on a sweater "stole" one of the K-State
cheerleaders and headed for midfield. Willie came in
driving a car and made a nice open-field tackle on
the Sooner imposter. We'll call a 15-yard penalty on
K-State for cheesiness.
11:25 a.m. | Weather for Kickoff
Bright sun and 52 degrees here as we prepare to kick
off in Manhattan. Appears to be a decent breeze from
the south to the north on the field. Press box just
announced SW breeze at 15 MPH.
11:21 a.m. | Sooners in Locker Room
The OU team and staff just exited the field and headed
for the visiting locker room in the northeast corner
of Wagner Field. Here comes the Kansas State band...
11:15 a.m. | Sparse KSU Crowd
Sparse crowd here 15 minutes before kickoff. We're
in the press box on the west side. Looking out on the
east stands, the student section appears 75% full but
the upper deck and club-level seating are only about
25% full. Fans should start finding their seats here
shortly so it will fill in.
11:07 a.m. | Sooners in the House
We met plenty of Oklahoma fans walking around the expansive
parking lots surrounding KSU's stadium this morning.
Already there are pockets of crimson in the southeast
corner of the stadium. Flecks of crimson here and there
throughout the crowd -- evidence of split family loyalties
here in this border state showdown.
10:59 a.m. | Good Morning From Manhattan
We are looking live on the field at Bill Snyder Family
Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. The Sooners are stretching
on the south end of the field while K-State is throwing
the ball around on the north side.
