NORMAN, Okla. - University of Oklahoma middle blocker Sarah Freudenrich was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. The Broken Arrow, Okla. native is the first OU volleyball player to earn a weekly honor this year and the fifth in school history.
“She did a very good job offensively during this past week,” said OU head coach Santiago Restrepo. “She gave us some options and did very well blocking. That's something we need in that position. She's deserving of the honor.”
Freudenrich had a career week against Colorado and Kansas. She started both matches, averaging 3.29 kills per set and hitting .283 on the week. Freudenrich had 15 total blocks, four of those block solos. She had 10 kills against Colorado and then eclipsed that career-high with 13 against Kansas. Against the Buffaloes, she led OU with two block solos and six block assists and had two block solos and five block assists at Kansas. In total, she scored 33.5 points in seven sets played on the week.
The Sooners return to action Saturday evening hosting second-ranked Nebraska at 7 p.m.
