NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team travels to Lawrence, Kan. Saturday to face the Kansas Jayhawks (8-9, 2-6 Big 12) in a 7 p.m. CT match from the Horejsi Family Athletics Center. The Sooners (8-10, 4-6 Big 12) look to extend their current win streak to two games.
OU leads the all-time series with Kansas, 40-26. The Jayhawks hold a 14-13 edge in games played in Lawrence. Oklahoma is seeking its first road win since defeating Texas Tech on Sept. 12. The Sooners are 1-4 in away matches this year.
In only her second career start, sophomore Sarah Freudenrich had a career night to help lead Oklahoma to a 3-0 sweep of Colorado Wednesday evening. The win helped the Sooners snap a four-match losing skid. Freudenrich set new season-highs in four statistical categories. She led OU with 10 kills, hitting a .300 clip on the evening. Freudenrich also tallied two block solos and six block assists. She led the Sooners with 15 points on the evening. Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu tallied nine kills and led the team with a .333 hitting percentage.
Freshman Caitlin Higgins added seven kills, while junior Bridget Laplante had five. Laplante led the Sooners defensively with 13 digs. Senior Lacy Barnes added 11 in the win. As a team, OU out-blocked the Buffs, 9-3. In addition to Freudenrich's putbacks, Laplante added her first block solo of the season and she, along with freshmen Brianne Barker and Suzy Boulavsky, added two block assists each.
Kansas enters Saturday evening's contest looking to snap a two-match losing bump. The Jayhawks have conference wins against Texas Tech and Iowa State. KU has an even 4-4 mark on their home floor this year. The Jayhawks currently have a one-match win streak against OU.
Following Saturday's match, the Sooners have an open date Wednesday evening before hosting second-ranked Nebraska on Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Saturday, Oct. 25. First serve from McCasland Field House is set for 7 p.m. CT.
