NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma freshman Steven Legendre has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the week, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Port Jefferson, N.Y., native is the conference's first honoree of the season.
In his first collegiate competition at last week's Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, Colo., Legendre captured the all-around (84.950) and floor exercise titles (15.400). In addition, Legendre finished second on the parallel bars with a 14.350, and was fourth on vault (15.400) and fifth on high bar (13.050).
Legendre's all-around performance helped third-ranked OU to its ninth consecutive Rocky Mountain Open collegiate title as the Sooners bested No. 10 Nebraska by a 343.550-331.200 margin.
Last season, four different OU gymnasts earned six MPSF weekly honors.
Legendre and the Sooners return to competition on Sunday, Jan. 20 in Lincoln, Neb., for a rematch with MPSF rivals Nebraska and Air Force at the Bob Devaney Center on the NU campus.
OU's home opener is scheduled for Jan. 26 at the Howard McCasland Field House. The No. 3 Sooners will take on sixth-ranked Michigan at 7 p.m.
