Tennis Releases Spring Schedule

January 10, 2008 | Women's Tennis

Norman, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team released its spring schedule today as announced by head coach Mark Johnson.

The team will begin competition with a three-day, three-team set in Milwaukee, Wis., on Jan. 25. There Oklahoma will meet Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Ohio State and Marquette.

"It will be a great way to start our season," head coach Mark Johnson said. "These are three solid programs that we don't get to compete against often. It will be a very good test for our team."

The Sooners open at home Feb. 1, when they play host to Oklahoma Baptist University at the Headington Family Tennis Center.

OU has 10 home matches on the schedule, including six Big 12 opponents. Among those visiting Norman will be arch-rivals Texas on March 15 and Oklahoma State on April 16. The Sooners will also host non-conference rival Alabama on March 23.

"We are excited to have so many home matches," Johnson said. "We are especially excited to host Texas and Oklahoma State. Those are two excellent programs that we always love to compete with. Playing at home and having the home crowd will make it even more fun for the girls."

The Sooners will take on Big 12 opponents Texas Tech, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor on the road. OU meets the University of Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Fla., on March 19 for the first time in history.

"I am very pleased with our outlook for this season," Johnson said. "We are excited to get started."

The women's tennis team will begin spring practice Monday, Jan. 14.
