NORMAN, Okla. -- Coming off a victory in its season opener at the Badger Women's Golf Invitational, the No. 16 University of Oklahoma women's golf team continues its fall season Monday, Oct. 1 and Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational in Boulder, Colo. The 20-team tournament will be played at the 6,211-yard, par-72 Omni Interlocken Golf Course.
"We are very excited about this tournament and feel like after our first win we are ready to win another," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "With the confidence that Ellen (Mueller), Kendall (Dye), Heather (Wright) and Kelly (Jacques) gained through the trip to Wisconsin, we know we have the team and the depth to win another."
The Sooners are ranked 16th by the Golfweek Magazine/Sagarin performance index ratings.
"Our strength is our short game and mental toughness and I am ready to see another team win and an individual win as well. Our ranking is 16th right now and we want to use this tournament to climb even higher."
Ellen Mueller headlines the Sooner lineup this week. Making her career debut Sept. 9-10 at the Badger Women's Golf Invitational, the true freshman fired rounds of 75 and 73 to tie for second place. Junior Kendall Dye, who tied with Mueller for second place at the Badger Invitational, is also a player to watch this week.
Joining Mueller and Dye in this week's Sooner lineup will be seniors Kelly Jacques and Heather Wright along with junior Staci Smoot.
The teams will play 36 holes Monday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. CT, and the final 18 holes will start Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. CT. The low four individual scores will determine the team score for each round.
The University of Colorado, the host team, is the lone other Big 12 school competing in the tournament.
Rounding out the field in Boulder will be Boise State, Cal-State Long Beach, Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana State, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Portland State, San Diego State, UC-Davis, Weber State and Wyoming.
The Sooners won the rain-shortened Badger Invitational with a 36-hole score of 594 (+18) at the 6,204-yard, par-72 University Ridge Golf Course. The title marked the team's 36th tournament championship in school history, and its first since winning the 2004 Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. OU's first-round team score of 293 ranks as the fifth-best 18-hole score in school history.
Finishing tied for seventh for the Sooners, a single stroke behind Mueller and Dye, were Jacques and Wright with two-round totals of 149 (+5).
Sophomore Ryanne Elmer, competing as an individual, tied for 38th place after posting a 171 (+17). Junior Sydney Lee tied for 53rd at +21 after rounds of 81 and 84 (165). Sophomore Chelsey Collins, also playing individually, tied for 61st with a score of 168 (+24).
