Shrine Game Tabs Four Sooners

Sooner Profile: Joe Jon Finley

September 23, 2007 | Football

NORMAN, Okla. -- Tight end Joe Jon Finley has been around the block enough to know what it takes to be successful at this level. A senior from Arlington, Texas, Finley possesses a tireless work ethic and leaves it all out on the field every time out.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed, as he was voted one of five captains by his fellow teammates prior to the start of the season. That, he says, is his proudest accomplishment as a player even considering all he has achieved on the field.

Off the field, Finley is one of the most personable guys on the team. Earlier this fall, we sat down with Joe Jon for a lighthearted interview, giving him the chance to share some insight into his life away from football.

On what he likes to do on his time away from the football:
"I like to go home and help my dad. He's a football coach in Victoria (Texas), so I try to help him out with some of his players. I also play a lot of golf. I love golf. I'm not any good but I like to go out there and hit it around."

On his least favorite chore around the house:
"I don't like washing the dishes. At our house, we kind of let them get piled up real high so there's no telling what's going to be under some of those dishes."

On his favorite music:
"I listen to George Strait all the time. I have his 50 number ones in my truck and on my Ipod."

On his favorite television show and movie:
"My favorite TV show would be Entourage. I think I watched the first two seasons in about three days. My favorite movie is Shooter. When I bought it it became one of my favorites right away."

On his all-time favorite OU player:
"That would be Lance Donley, no doubt about it. When I came in he really helped me out. He played 110 percent and left it all out on the field. Anytime you can learn from a guy like that it's special."

On what college football game he would attend if given the chance (not counting OU):
"Ohio State-Michigan. It's a huge rivalry and there are over 100,000 people in the stands. That's one of the ones I've always wanted to see."

His one piece of advice for the younger players on the team:
"Manage that time. Rest is hard to come by around here during the season. You have to try to get as much sleep as you can when you can."

On the one teammate he would like to interview:
"I would interview Lewis Baker because his hair looks funny on camera."

On his goals for this season:
"I just want to help this team win a national championship. I dream about it every night, and nothing else really matters as long as I'm part of a national championship team."
