NORMAN, Okla. - After a solid showing in Wednesday's preliminary round, OU senior Jonathan Horton advanced to Friday's finals at the Visa U.S. Championships in San Jose, Calif. Horton finished sixth in the all-around standings with a score of 87.950 as the prelims wrapped up late Wednesday night.
2006 U.S. all-around champion Alexander Artemev and David Durante lead the all-around standings after posting matching scores of 89.500.
Qualifiers were determined by a points system with the top 36 gymnasts advancing to the finals. Scores from both days of competition are combined to determine the final all-around and individual event rankings.
A native of Houston, Texas, Horton recorded top-10 finishes on three events including fourth place on still rings (15.650) and fifth on parallel bars (15.050). He also was 10th on pommel horse with a 14.200.

Also advancing to the finals were former Sooners Jamie and David Henderson. The brothers from Crosby, Texas, finished ninth (85.850) and 16th (83.300), respectively, in the all-around standings.
Sooner signee Steven Legendre qualified for the finals as well, scoring an 83.600 in the all-around to tie for 15th. The incoming freshman from Flower Mound, Texas, also recorded the highest finish of any of the OU contingent with a second-place showing on vault (15.950).
The finals competition at the 2007 Visa U.S. Championships will be held Friday at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. The meet is scheduled for a 9 p.m. (CT) start.
The U.S. Championships serve as the national championship competition for artistic gymnastics. The American team for the 2007 World Championships (Sept. 1-9 in Stuttgart, Germany) will be determined based on performances at this week's event.
