NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma Athletics Director Joe Castiglione and head soccer coach Randy Evans announced the Sooners' 2007 schedule on Tuesday.

After beginning the past two seasons on the road, the Sooners open 2007 at home against Alabama A&M on August 31.  In addition to the season opener, the Sooners will play 10 of their 19 games in 2007 at John Crain Field at the OU Soccer Complex.

"We are obviously excited to begin the season at home," said Evans.  "This is a great schedule for us and it's no secret that our goal is to get back to the NCAA Tournament and this schedule has the strength to obtain a solid RPI at season's end."

The Bulldogs are the first of seven first-time opponents that OU will face during its non-conference schedule.  The Sooners will also play William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, Middle Tennessee State and Butler for the first time in school history.  Oral Roberts and North Texas conclude the non-conference portion of the 2007 slate.

William and Mary and Cal State Fullerton, which combined to win 28 games in 2006, are two of the Sooners' six opponents in 2007 that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Representing the Big 12 Conference in the 2006 tournament were Texas A&M, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma State.

After opening the season at home with Alabama A&M and Oral Roberts (Sept. 2), OU will play its next four contests on the road.  The trip begins at the Tribe Invitational, hosted by William and Mary, on Sept. 7 against the host Tribe.  The Sooners will also match up with VCU on Sept. 9 to conclude tournament action.  A visit to Long Beach State (Sept. 14) and Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 16) wraps up the road trip for Oklahoma.

Before Big 12 play begins, OU hosts North Texas (Sept. 21) and Middle Tennessee State (Sept. 23) in Norman.

"The level of play of our non-conference schedule should get us well prepared for the demands of Big 12 competition," added Evans.  "Developing a consistent level of play in the non-conference segment is going to be important because there are no breaks in the Big 12 schedule.  We have a terrific home slate for the fans to watch us battle against the Big 12's best teams and we have some very challenging road trips."

The Sooners open the conference portion of the schedule on the road against Nebraska on Sept. 28.  Following another away game at Iowa State on Sept. 30, OU returns home to host Baylor (Oct. 4) and Texas A&M (Oct. 7).

In addition to hosting the Bears and Aggies, Oklahoma will also entertain Texas Tech (Oct. 19), Colorado (Oct. 26) and Texas (Oct. 28) in Big 12 play at the OU Soccer Complex.  The three home games are part of the Sooners' longest home stand of the season, which also features the final non-conference game of the season against Butler (Oct. 21).

The Sooners hit the road in conference play against Missouri (Oct. 12), Kansas (Oct. 14) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 1).

The top eight teams from the Big 12 conference will participate in the 2007 Big 12 Championship, hosted in San Antonio, Texas at Blossom Stadium on Nov. 7, 9 and 11.  The winner of the tournament, along with at-large bids, will then advance to the 64-team NCAA Tournament, held on campus sites, with this year's championship hosted by Texas A&M in College Station.

The Sooners, who recorded an 8-11-1 overall record last season, have made five Big 12 Championship appearances (2006, 2005, 2003, 2001 and 2000) in the program's 11-year history and participated in their lone NCAA Tournament in 2003.
