NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma gymnasts Jonathan Horton and Chris Brooks and former Sooner Jamie Henderson will compete in the 2007 U.S. Men's Qualifier, June 7-9, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.  The Sooner trio will be among over 120 of the country's top male gymnasts at the event.

In addition to serving as a qualifying event for the 2007 Visa Championships, the U.S. Qualifier also serves as a basis for selecting the American teams for the World University Games, Pan American Games and World Championships later this year.

Horton and Henderson are currently members of the U.S. Senior National Team and will be competing with their sights set on making the American roster for the 2007 World Championships.

A member of the 2006 World Championships team, the meet may also have added importance for Horton who has aspirations of competing at the 2008 Olympics.

"Jon absolutely wants to make the 2007 World Championships team and hopefully have an opportunity to qualify for the 2008 U.S Olympic team," Williams said.

For Brooks, who earned All-American honors on high bar for the second consecutive season at the 2007 NCAA Championships, this week's qualifier is another step in the progression of elite gymnastics.

"That's what makes my job exciting," Williams said.  "Not only do I have the opportunity to put together a team to compete at the collegiate level and work towards collegiate national championships, but also have athletes who are interested in competing at the highest levels internationally.  There really are no limits to what they can accomplish."

The teams for the World University Games and Pan American Games will be named after the conclusion of the U.S. Men's Qualifier.  The results from the event count toward the selection of the U.S. World Championships Team, which will be named following the conclusion of the Visa Championships in San Jose, Calif., in August.

The OU trio will compete in the first of two sessions on Thursday, beginning at 2 p.m. (CDT).  The top 48 gymnasts from the two preliminary rounds will advance to the final day of competition on June 9 at 3 p.m. (CDT).
