Williams & Porlier Named All-Big 12

NORMAN, Okla. -- Junior Jackson Williams (C) and Sophomore Stephen Porlier (RHP) represented Oklahoma baseball on Tuesday, May 22 as the All-Big 12 teams were announced by the league office. Williams and Porlier earned second team honors while seniors Joseph Hughes (OF) and Aaron Ivey (OF) , juniors Joe Dunigan (OF), Aaron Reza (SS) and Heath Taylor (LHP) and freshman Aaron Baker (1B) received honorable mention.

Williams and Reza were also named to the all-conference team a year ago. Reza was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team after his first year at Oklahoma, while Williams received honorable mention.

“The coaching staff is proud of what these student-athletes have accomplished this year,” said OU head coach Sunny Golloway. “We are looking forward to getting the Big 12 Championship started tomorrow against Missouri.”

Williams finished the regular season with a career-best .335 batting average and 43 RBIs. Porlier led the league with 94 stirkeouts and recorded seven wins in 13 starts.

The conference also announced the individual awards on Tuesday. Kyle Russell (Texas) was named Big 12 Player of the Year, while the Pitcher of the Year accolade went to teammate Adrian Alaniz (Texas), highlighting the 2007 All-Big 12 Baseball Postseason Awards. Trevor Coleman (Missouri) earned Freshman of the Year, and teammates David Newman and Brandon Hicks (Texas A&M) shared the honor for Newcomer of the Year. Tim Jamieson (Missouri) and Augie Garrido (Texas) were named Co-Coach of the Year.

The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches. No. 5 Texas placed a conference-leading seven players on the all-conference squads, while No. 18 Oklahoma State placed six -- UT has five on the first team and two on the second team while Oklahoma State has three on the first and three on the second.

The 2007 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship begins on Wednesday, May 23. No. 7 seed Oklahoma will open the tournament against No. 2 seed Missouri at 5 p.m. at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
