Women Qualify for Penn Relays Final

Big 12 Track Championships Ahead

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field teams head to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.

The University of Nebraska hosts its first Big 12 Outdoor Championships at Ed Weir Stadium after hosting the Big 12 Indoor for six straight seasons (2001-2006).

In the field will be 20 NCAA national champions, 94 All-Americans with 192 career honors and 26 reigning conference champions.

The Sooner men and women posted all-time bests at the conference meet during the indoor season and look to do so again outdoors.

Individually, Kevin Bookout, Marcus Pugh, Portia Nash and Frankie Wright won titles indoors and several Sooners are favorites in their respective events once again as Bookout (shot put), Jessica Eldridge (1,500-meter run), Chip Heuser and Scott Martin (pole vault), Pugh (100-meter dash) and Toni Smith (long jump and triple jump) are ranked No. 1 in the conference entering the weekend.  Cale Drumright (javelin) and Martin are reigning champions in their respective events.

The Big 12 Championships begin Friday, May 11, at 1 p.m. for the first event of the decathlon with the team champions crowned Sunday evening.
