Ivey Named Academic All-District

NORMAN, Okla. -- OU senior Aaron Ivey was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Baseball First Team released on May 10 by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Ivey was also a first team all-district member in 2006, becoming the second Sooner in school history to achieve the accomplishment in back-to-back seasons. Casey Bookout was honored for his work in the classroom and on the field in 1998 and 1999.

Also recently, Ivey was named one of ten finalists for the Baseball Division of the 2007 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes the Outstanding Senior Student Athlete in and out of the classroom. Nationwide fan balloting is available online until June 6 (www.seniorclassaward.com) and will be combined with votes from coaches, media and sponsors to determine the recipient of the 2007 award.

Ivey, who was a 2006 CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American in 2006, currently leads the Sooners with a .355 batting average and 18 stolen bases. Ivey has hit safely in 13 of the last 14 games with six multiple-hit performances in that span. In addition, the Oklahoma City native has stolen 13 bases in the last 13 games.

As a first team all-district member, Ivey will be nominated for consideration for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American team. Ivey will be vying to become the first OU baseballer to earn academic All-America honors twice in a career.

Ivey and the rest of the Sooners return to action this weekend at No. 21 Missouri for a three-game set at Taylor Stadium.
