WACO, Texas -- The No. 19 OU baseball team fell short in the series finale on Friday against Baylor in a 5-2 decision at Baylor Ballpark. The Sooners were held scoreless until the seventh inning but the two runs were not enough to overcome the Bears, who have won each series meeting in Waco since the Big 12 originated in 1997.
After winning game two earlier in the day to even the series off 10 hits, the Sooners' offense was held to six hits in the finale. Baylor outpaced Oklahoma with seven hits on the evening, six of which came with two outs on the board and produced all five runs.
The loss drops OU's overall record to 23-11 overall and 4-5 in Big 12 play. Baylor improved to 19-15 and 4-8.

Joseph Hughes took the mound for Oklahoma in the finale and lasted 5 2/3 innings. Hughes was effective with six strikeouts, despite allowing five runs off seven hits and four walks.
In the bottom of the sixth, Hughes walked Raynor Campbell on his 100th pitch of the evening and the next batter, Chase Gerdes, lifted Baylor to a 5-0 lead with his bases-clearing triple down the right-field line.
The Sooners started to mount a comeback in the seventh inning when Aaron Reza scored on Jarod Freeman's hard-hit ball to the Bears' shortstop, which was ruled an error.
In the eighth, OU plated another run as Aaron Ivey crossed home on Reza's bloop single to right field. Reza finished the game 2-for-3 and Aljay Davis led the club with a 3-for-3 performance. Besides Reza and Davis, the Sooners' offense stalled throughout the game and fell to 0-10 when trailing after the eighth inning this season.
Kendal Volz (4-1) lasted seven innings and surrendered one run off three hits before giving way to Cliff Springstein (1 IP) and Nick Cassavechia notched his sixth save.
Oklahoma returns to action Tuesday, April 10 at Eck Stadium in Wichita, Kan. to face No. 10 Wichita State at 7 p.m. The following day, the Sooners will host Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
