NFL Draft Day Nearing

NORMAN, Okla. -- Saturday marks the first day of the National Football League's Draft. With 327 all-time draft choices, Oklahoma ranks No. 4 among the nation's college programs.

Draft day has been particuarly busy during Bob Stoops' tenure.

Some 30 Sooner players have been drafted since Stoops took over the program. Ten were taken in 2005 and seven in 2006.

Over the last two years, only Florida State can match OU's draft total of 17. USC is next with 16 followed by Miami with 14 and Georgia with 13.

The program is on an impressive run with first-round selections. An OU player has been taken in the opening round in each of the last five drafts. RB Adrian Peterson appears to to be in a position to extend that string to six years.

One of the more remarkable aspects of the drafted Sooners in recent years is the variance of positions. Players from 14 different positions have been taken from Oklahoma since the 2001 draft.

Since Stoops came to Norman the franchise with the most affinity for Oklahoma players in the draft has been Baltimore, which has taken four Sooners. Cleveland and Chicago are next with three each.
