Upcoming Event: Women's Gymnastics versus LSU on January 10, 2026 at 3:00 PM

April 02, 2007 | Women's Gymnastics
NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team is headed to the Central Regional in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the NCAA announced Monday. OU is the No. 2 seed behind the host school, top-seeded Alabama. The event is scheduled for a 6 p.m. (CT) start on April 14 at the Coleman Coliseum.
In addition to the Crimson Tide, OU will be paired with No. 3-seed Iowa State, No. 4-seed Michigan State, No. 5-seed Ohio State and No. 6-seed Kentucky.
Six teams, five all-around competitors (who are not on a qualifying team) and one individual event specialist per event were named to each of the six regions. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 26-28, hosted by the University of Utah.
In addition, the event winners at the regional championships will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or the all-around qualifiers.
Oklahoma finished first at last season's Central Regional as the No.1 seed. The Sooners recorded their fourth-best score of the year (196.375) to best second-seeded LSU (195.825). OU's Brittney Koncak-Schumann tied for the all-around title and finished in the top three on all four events.
This year's OU squad is coming off a second place finish at the 2007 Big 12 Championships in Columbia, Mo., on March 31. Koncak-Schumann tied for first on the floor exercise and Kiara Redmond was third in the all-around standings.
OU advanced to the NCAA Championships for the third straight year in 2006 and looks to continue the school-record streak to four in 2007.
