Porlier Shares Big 12 Weekly Honor

NORMAN, Okla. -- Sophomore right-hander Stephen Porlier was named the co-Big 12 Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. It is a career first for Porlier, who shared the honor with Chase Bayuk from Kansas State, while Ty Wright from Oklahoma State was tabbed the Player of the Week for games played from April 9-16.

Porlier tossed the first complete-game shutout of his career in Oklahoma's 3-0 win over the Cornhuskers on April 15. The four-hit shutout was the first for a Sooner since Daniel McCutchen shut down UC Riverside in 10 innings on March 3, 2006. Porlier struck out six in the outing and is tied for the Big 12 lead with 68 punch outs this season.

The Sugarland, Texas native's performance against Nebraska also earned him a spot on the "National Honor Roll" as presented by the College Baseball Foundation. Porlier was also voted the Midwest Regional Performance of the Week by InsidePitching.com.

The sophomore has struck out 29 batters over the last 30 1/3 innings and 10 or more in two of the last four outings. Additionally, Porlier has at least four strike outs in each of his 10 appearances this season, including a season-high 12 batters against Texas A&M on March 23 and 11 versus Baylor on April 5.

Porlier is the third Sooner this season to collect the weekly accolade from the conference office. Aaron Reza (player) and Heath Taylor (pitcher) both received the honor on March 5.

The Sooners return to action tonight against TCU. First pitch at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas is slated for 6:30 p.m. Following the midweek contest, OU will resume action in the Big 12 at Kansas State on April 20-22.
