All-Americans Pack Jacobs Invite

NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma hosts the 38th, and perhaps most prestigious, John Jacobs Invitational Friday, April 13, and Saturday, April 14, at the John Jacobs Track & Field Complex on the OU campus.
Student-athletes from state high schools compete Friday morning and afternoon before collegiate athletes take to the track Friday night for the distance carnival. The remainder of collegiate track events runs Saturday.
Sixty athletes who have combined to earn over 100 NCAA All-America selections are among the competitors from Arkansas, Houston, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Syracuse and Wyoming that are scheduled to be in the field for collegiate events.

Among the highlights will be the pole vault as multi-time All-American and SEC record holder Jodi Unger of Arkansas faces All-American and Big 12 champion Kate Sultanova. All-Americans Chip Heuser (Oklahoma) and Andre Poljanec (Northern Iowa) compete against former Big 12 champions Gabe Baldwin (Nebraska), Scott Martin (Oklahoma) and Jordan Scott (Kansas) on the men's side.
The throws fields include 2007 national indoor weight throw champion Egor Agafonov of Kansas, two-time All-American and 2007 Big 12 indoor shot put champion Kevin Bookout of Oklahoma and All-American Rachel Jansen of Northern Iowa.
Big 12 champion Marcus Pugh of Oklahoma faces off against All-American Termaine Smith of Houston in the men's 100-meter dash before taking on Smith and Nate Probasco of Nebraska in the 200.
The long jump field is stacked as well as Big 12 indoor champion Frankie Wright of Oklahoma takes on All-Americans Arturs Abolinas (Nebraska) and Cody Eichmeier (Northern Iowa).

The women's high jump field will see a battle between Conference USA Indoor Athlete of the Year Gaelle Niare of SMU and three-time All-American and multiple Big 10 champion Peaches Roach of Iowa. The men's high jump field features four-time All-American Dusty Jonas of Nebraska.
The men's 4x400-meter relay field pits All-Americans from Nebraska, Northern Iowa and Oral Roberts.
Five junior college All-Americans from Cowley County College will also be in the field for Friday's Distance Carnival events.
Admission for both days is free. Spectators are encouraged to park in the lot north of the track complex which may be entered via Brooks Street.
Friday's high school events are scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the college distance carnival scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Saturday's events begin at 11 a.m.
