NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma senior Brian Carr has been named one of eight finalists for the Nissen Emery Award, given annually to the top senior gymnast in the NCAA. Considered the Heisman Trophy of collegiate gymnastics, the Nissen Emery Award will be presented at the 2007 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships banquet on Thursday, April 12, in University Park, Pa.
Carr is co-captain of the 2007 OU squad and earned All-America honors on pommel horse at last season's NCAA event finals. He has earned seven top three event finishes this season, including high bar titles at the Rocky Mountain Open (Jan. 13) and versus Nebraska and Air Force (Jan. 20).
Carr shares OU's team season high (9.0) on pommel horse with sophomore Jason Laughton, and is currently ranked in a tie for 19th nationally on the apparatus.

Oklahoma leads the nation with five Nissen Emery Award winners in its history. The last Sooner to receive the honor is current assistant coach Daniel Furney, the 2003 Nissen Emery winner.
The other finalists for the 2007 award include Iowa's Jack Bouchard, Penn State's Matt Cohen, Stanford's Peter Derman, Willie Ito of Ohio State, Michigan's Justin Laury, Minnesota's Jake Lee and Tim Morrison of the University of Illinois-Chicago.
Carr and the Sooners wrap up their regular season Saturday night at the Howard McCasland Field House, taking on Bouchard and the ninth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes at 7 p.m.
