No. 16 Softball Adds Another Win

MIAMI Following its come back performance against No. 20 Louisville, the No. 16 Oklahoma softball team added another win in its second game of the doubleheader. The Sooners topped Illinois State, 3-1, in their second game at the Diamond Fun and Sun Classic in Miami, Fla., on Friday.
Oklahoma starter Lauren Eckermann was impressive in the circle as she recorded her second victory of the day after pitching the complete game and holding the Redbirds to four hits and only one run while also fanning five batters. The two-time juco All-American owns a 1.74 ERA in her first two games in a Sooner uniform.

The Sooners were the first to score for the second straight game as Traci Dickenson singled to right center field with one out and Norrelle Dickson reached first after being hit by the pitch and senior Amber Spaulding continued to stay hot at the plate as she singled to center to load the bases. Freshman Amber Flores recorded the first RBI of her Sooner career with her sacrifice fly to center field to score Dickenson and give OU the initial 1-0 lead.
OU starter Lauren Eckermann held the Redbirds scoreless and gave up only two hits until the top of the sixth. Jackie Williams led off the sixth with a bunt single and advanced to third after a bunt single by Tiffany Prager. Williams advanced home after Prager stole second and ISU tied it up 1-1.
Oklahoma answered in the bottom of the sixth as it was Flores again as she recorded her first career hit in a Sooner uniform with a leadoff double to right field. Sophomore Samantha Ricketts was hit by a pitch on the following play as Jamie Fox came to the plate. The senior ripped a single to left field to load the bases as junior Savannah Long stepped up to bat. The junior responded with a two RBI single to right field and Oklahoma took the 3-1 lead it would never lose.
The Sooners will return to tourney action on Saturday as they take on Illinois at 1 p.m. (CST) and face host school Florida International at 5 p.m (CST).
