NORMAN, Okla. For the third time in four weeks, Oklahoma's Brittney Koncak-Schumann has been named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week. Tuesday's honor marks the seventh conference honor of her career.
A senior from McQueeney, Texas, Koncak-Schumann won her second all-around title of the season with a 39.300, helping Oklahoma upset sixth-ranked Nebraska. The win in Lincoln was the Sooners' first since 1991 in a dual meet against NU. Koncak-Schumann tied for first on beam (9.9), tied for second on bars (9.85) and finished fourth on floor exercise (9.825).
Koncak-Schumann won three Big 12 weekly honors in 2006, and won back-to-back honors this season (Jan. 16 and 23).
With the award, Oklahoma gymnasts have now won five of the 10 weekly awards handed out by the Big 12 this season.
