February 20, 2007 | Men's Gymnastics

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma freshman Ian Jackson has been named Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 19 by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.  Jackson is the fourth different Sooner to win the conference award this season.  Juniors Jacob Messina, Taqiy Abdullah-Simmons and Jonathan Horton (twice) have also earned MPSF honors in 2007.

Against Texas and Washington on Feb. 16, Jackson, competing in the all-around for the first time, won the rings (9.05) and vault (8.85) crowns and finished third on the floor exercise (8.65) to nab the all-around title.

The Harrisburg, Pa., native is ranked third nationally on vault in the latest GymInfo rankings.  He also rates in the top 10 in the MPSF on vault (No. 2), rings (No. 5), floor (No. 8) and high bar (No. 9).

With Jackson's award, OU gymnasts have now won five of the six MPSF weekly awards given out this season.

Jackson and the rest of the third-ranked Sooners will face several of the nation's top teams on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Pacific Coast Classic in Oakland, Calif.  The event, which will air on Fox Sports Net, is scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. (CST) start from the Oakland Convention Center.
