Abdullah-Simmons Earns MPSF Award

NORMAN, Okla. Junior Taqiy Abdullah-Simmons has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 12.  The honor is the first of his career. 

Abdullah-Simmons is the third different Sooner to earn the conference's weekly award this season.  Jacob Messina was the Jan. 15 winner, while Jonathan Horton won back-to-back honors on Jan. 29 and Feb. 5.

A Philadelphia, Pa., native, Abdullah-Simmons finished fifth in the all-around competition at the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., Feb. 8-10.  He also took seventh on the parallel bars with a two-day total of 29.750, and scored top-25 finishes on high bar (14th, 28.250), rings (17th, 28.650), floor (21st, 27.700), pommel horse (T-21st, 36.950) and vault (T-23rd, 29.850).

Oklahoma is back in action at the Howard McCasland Field House in Norman on Friday, Feb. 16, hosting club teams from the University of Texas and the University of Washington.  The meet is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (CST) start.
