IRVING, Texas -- For the second consecutive week, OU's Danielle Robinson has been named the Big 12's Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday.
Robinson helped the No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners defeat No. 14 Arizona State and Mississippi State at the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun, Mexico, over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The San Jose, Calif., native scored a career high 18 points against the Sun Devils on 9-of-11 field goal shooting and added three assists and one steal. The speedy guard scored 10 of her points, including eight in the first half, by way of the fast break layup.
Against Mississippi State, Robinson totaled seven points and three rebounds in her fewest minutes since becoming a starter as OU handled the Lady Bulldog attack. The freshman ran the Sooner offense effectively, dishing a career high five assists to just two turnovers.
Robinson leads Big 12 freshmen with a 65 percent field goal percentage (minimum 10 attempts) and assists with 16. She is third in scoring on OU's team with 13.5 points per game and leads the team in steals and assists.
Oklahoma State's Andrea Riley won player of the week honors after averaging 30 points per game in Cowgirl victories over UC Riverside and Fresno State.
Robinson was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week Nov. 19 after averaging 14.5 points in games against No. 1 Tennessee and No. 3 Maryland. Robinson also totaled seven steals and an 8-to-3 assist-to-turnover ratio in those games.
The Sooners host North Texas in their home opener Tuesday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Okla.
