NORMAN, OK - University of Oklahoma women's golf head coach Carol Ludvigson announced her 2008 recruiting class Wednesday, with two new additions to the team headed to Norman next season.
Kelly Short from Yorktow High School in Muncie, Ind., and Brooke Collins of Monarch High School in Louisville, Colo., signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Sooners in 2008.
Collins joins her sister, sophomore Chelsey Collins, on the Sooner golf team. The younger Collins was the 2007 Colorado High School 5A State Champion and the 2006 Colorado Women's Golf Association Junior Champion.
"We are so excited about Brooke and are very excited to have both the Collins sisters as Sooners," Ludvigson said. "Brooke comes to OU with a substantial amount of experience on the national level. She is strong and very competitive and has a great attitude. She is the type of player that grinds every round out and works very hard. She is just like Chelsey, with an extremely hard work ethic and great attitude."
Short, the 2007 Indiana Girls' State Finals third-place finisher and 2006 Women's Western Junior First Flight runner-up, also looks to make an early impact for the Sooners.
"We are ecstatic about Kelly signing with us," Ludvigson said. "She will bring so many fantastic qualities as a player and a person. Her work ethic is impeccable and her desire to win is outstanding. She came for her visit and I could see she would fit right into our family at OU.
"She has the heart and desire to do her best in golf and school, has mature leadership abilities and is so much fun to be around. I see Kelly as someone who can come in and make a statement in our lineup at the very beginning," Ludvigson said. "She has a refreshing attitude and I can't wait to coach her and help her reach her dreams in college athletics."
With the team's success this fall and only two seniors graduating from this year's team, the future looks bright for the young Sooners.
"The `08 signees bring such spirit and confidence and will add to the amount of depth and strength that we have already," Ludvigson said. "I see both of these players coming in and fighting for a spot in the top five automatically. We have two strong golfers and more than that, two awesome people who will be a part of our Sooner family."
