Sooners Place Fourth in Lubbock

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished in fourth place Tuesday at the 14-team Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational in Lubbock, Texas. The Sooners carded a team score of 304 on the day to finish at 927 (+51) overall, seven shots behind third-place Colorado. Texas Tech, the host school, won the tournament at the 6,525-yard, par-73 Rawls Course with a score of 900 (+24), while Georgia State took second.

Oklahoma finished ahead of fifth-place Arkansas-Little Rock by two shots and sixth-place Oral Roberts by 19 shots.

"We learned a lot," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "We have a lot to work on before we go to New Mexico next week, but we are very fired up to go there and win. We are very close to playing great golf."

OU senior Kelly Jacques fired a final-round 1-under 72 to vault into a 12th-place finish at 229 (+10). Jacques now has three top-15 finishes in three fall events. Freshman Ellen Mueller finished alone in 13th, one stroke behind Jacques at 230 (+11). It was Mueller's second top-15 finish in just her third career event.

Sophomore Chelsey Collins, competing as an individual, tied for 14th with a score of 231 (+12), while senior Heather Wright shot a three-round score of 236 (+17) to tie for 24th. It was Wright's third top-25 finish of the season.

Sophomore Joyce Trus, playing as an individual, finished tied for 31st at 239 (+20). Juniors Kendall Dye and Staci Smoot tied for 34th with total scores of 240 (+21). Individually competing sophomore Andrea Sellmeyer rounded out the Sooner scoring with a three-round total of 245 (+26), good for a tie for 54th.

Dominique Pytlewski of Colorado finished atop the individual standings. Her score of 220 (+1) gave her the tournament victory by one stroke over Texas Tech's Megan Dowdy, Monday's 36-hole leader.

Three of the top-four-finishing teams (Texas Tech, Colorado and OU) came from the Big 12 Conference.

The Sooners complete their fall season beginning next Monday, Oct. 15, as they head to Las Cruces, N.M., for the three-day Diet Coke Roadrunner Invitational.
