Women's Golf in Fourth Place

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma women's golf team shot rounds of 312 and 311 on Monday at the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational in Lubbock, Texas, good for fourth place going into the final round. Texas Tech, the host team, leads the tournament through two rounds with a total score of 609 (+25) at the 6,525-yard, par-73 Rawls Course.
"We are ready for tomorrow," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "We didn't play good as a team today. We need to make putts and eliminate the big holes."
Freshman Ellen Mueller led the way for the Sooners, carding a two-round score of 153 (+7) that puts her in a tie for seventh. Sophomore Chelsey Collins, competing as an individual, also sits tied for seventh after rounds of 79 and 74.
Mueller and Collins are six shots behind the 36-hole leader, Megan Dowdy of Texas Tech, who carded rounds of 76 and 71 for a score of +1.
Seniors Kelly Jacques and Heather Wright, along with junior Staci Smoot, all stand tied for 18th with identical scores of 157 (+11).
Sophomore Joyce Trus, playing individually, fired a total score of 161 (+15) and is tied for 34th. Junior Kendall Dye is tied for 43rd at 164 (+18). Andrea Sellmeyer, the third Sooner playing as an individual, stands in a tie for 50th at 165 (+19).
The Big 12 is represented in the McHaney Invitational by three schools (OU, Colorado and Texas Tech).
The Sooners are six shots behind third-place Colorado at 617 (+33), 10 back of second-place Georgia State at 613 (+29), and 14 strokes out of Texas Tech's lead.
Final round play begins Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CT.
