NORMAN, Okla. - The eighth annual Holiday Food Drive will be held this Saturday prior to Oklahoma's football game with Texas A&M. Partners on the project include Josh Heupel's 14 Foundation, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Regional Food Bank and Oklahoma Public Schools,

Fans are encouraged to participate by giving a $1 donation to help buy the food. Volunteers will be collecting near each gate around the stadium before kickoff.

The project originated with Josh Heupel, now an assistant coach at OU, while he was the quarterback for the Sooners in 2000.

The Holiday Food Drive has grown to helping hundreds of families in Norman over the past seven years. This year the Holiday Food Drive will target 750 families in 8 different communities across Oklahoma.

Families have been chosen in Ada, Ardmore, Enid, Kingfisher, Lawton, Norman, Moore and Stillwater for this Thanksgiving. The food will consist of a Thanksgiving meal along with enough food to feed a family of five for three days.

Other Sooner programs assisting this year are the OU baseball and softball teams. Each will be helping in the collection at the football game on Saturday.

The Sooner Football program assists each year in meeting the Norman families by hosting a night at the Switzer Center for each of them to enjoy meeting the players. The Sooner players also help distribute the food to the families in attendance.

The Sooners and Aggies kick off at 7 p.m., Saturday in Norman.
