NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma gymnast Steven Legendre has been named to the U.S. Team for the 2007 Junior Pan Am Championships, USA Gymnastics announced Tuesday.  The event will be held Nov. 19-26 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

A freshman from Port Jefferson, N.Y., Legendre will join 2007 U.S. junior all-around champion Alexy Bilozertchev (Hilliard, Ohio), Danell Leyva (Miami, Fla.) and Glen Ishino (Santa Ana, Calif.) on the four-man squad.  John Orozco of Bronx, N.Y. will be the team alternate.

At the 2007 Visa U.S. Championships, Legendre, competing in the senior division, finished second on vault and seventh on floor.  A year earlier, he won the vault and was second on the parallel bars in the junior division and finished third on vault in the senior division at the Visa Championships.  He also finished eighth in the all-around at the 2005 Junior National Championships.

At a recent dual meet competition between the U.S. and German junior national teams at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., Legendre finished second in the all-around.

Legendre is the second member of the OU squad to represent the U.S. at an international competition this fall.  Senior Jonathan Horton was a member of the American team that finished fourth at the 2007 World Gymnastics Championships, Sept. 1-9 in Stuttgart, Germany.  Horton also competed with Team USA in a tri-meet competition with Ukraine and Russia in Kiev, Ukraine, in June.
