Women's Golf Runner-Up in Colorado

NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 17 University of Oklahoma women's golf team finished second at the University of Colorado Heather Farr Memorial Invitational, carding a final-round 301 on Tuesday. The host team, Colorado, took home the championship at the 6,211-yard, par-72 Omni Interlocken Golf Course with a three-round total of 885 (+21), four strokes better than the Sooners.

"We learned a lot from today's round," OU head coach Carol Ludvigson said. "We got a bit tentative putting on the final holes and that hurt us, but we had a good finish and are looking forward to getting into Lubbock and getting another win. This will just make us stronger mentally and any time we can put ourselves in contention, the better we will become."

Senior Kelly Jacques and junior Kendall Dye led the way for Oklahoma, which recorded its second top-two finish in as many tournaments this fall. Jacques and Dye tied for 11th with total scores of 221 (+5). Dye's third-round 73 (+1) was the low round of the day for the Sooners.

Senior Heather Wright finished in a tie for 20th after shooting a three-round score of 224 (+8). True freshman Ellen Mueller tied for 24th at 225 (+9). Junior Staci Smoot completed the scoring for the Sooners with a tie for 49th, firing a total of 233 (+17).

Kayla Morinaga of Portland State won top honors with a 2-under score of 214. She defeated Monday's 36-hole leader Dominique Pytlewski of Colorado (216) by two strokes.

OU's first-round score of 289 tied for the second-best round in school history, two strokes off the school record. The team's three-round total of 889 finished one shot ahead of third place Idaho.

The Sooners are back in action next week as they travel to Lubbock, Texas, Oct. 8-9 for the Jeannine McHaney/Audrey Morehead Invitational.
