STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The University of Oklahoma cross country team closed out its regular season by finishing second in the men's division and 12th in the women's division in the Penn State National Invite at the Penn State Blue and White Golf Courses in State College, Pa.
Running on the 5.2-mile course, Oklahoma finished with 89 points and three competitors in the top 10, led by sophomore Jon Grey, who led the Sooners for the second consecutive event with a time of 26 minutes and 26 seconds to earn fourth place. Classmate Rob Sorrell (26:30) was the next OU runner to cross the finish line in eighth, followed by freshman Kevin Schwab (26:31) in ninth.
Rounding out the scoring for Oklahoma were sophomore Jacob Boone (26:51), who finished 20th, and Matt Grey (27:17), who finished 48th.
On the women's side, OU was led by its two seniors as All-American Jessica Eldridge (21:30) finished 11th on the 6,000-meter course and Catherine Odell (21:59) came in 39th.
A pair of freshmen were next for OU as Jessica Engel (22:28) and Kelly Waters (22:33) finished 61st and 64th, respectively. Sophomore Lauren Watson (23:25) came in 107th to round out Oklahoma's scoring.
LaSalle University took the men's team crown with 62 points while West Virginia accumulated 86 points to take the women's. Individually, Andre Silva (26:16) of Kentucky was the men's champion and Marie-Louise Asselin (20:46) of West Virginia was the top finisher in the women's division.
With the conclusion of the regular season, OU prepares for postseason competition beginning with the 2007 Big 12 Championships, Oct. 26, in Lubbock, Texas, followed by the 2007 NCAA Midwest Regional, Nov. 10, in Peoria, Ill.
