NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma junior Kiara Redmond was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week for Jan. 31, the conference announced Wednesday. Redmond is the third different Sooner gymnast to garner Big 12 honors this season. Overall, OU has won four of the eight weekly awards given by the conference this season.
A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Redmond recorded the first perfect score in the Big 12 this season with a 10.0 on the vault in the Sooners' wins over TWU, George Washington and Centenary on Jan. 27.
The perfect score was the eighth in OU program history. Redmond joins Leah Mueller (2002) and Amber McCracken (2000) as the only Sooners to record a 10.0 on the vault.
