NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma women's gymnastics team climbed five spots to No. 8 in latest GymInfo poll.  The ranking is the Sooners' highest since coming in at No. 6 in the March 27, 2006 poll.  OU began the 2007 season ranked 10th.

The Sooners are second among all Big 12 teams behind only No. 7 Nebraska.

The most recent rankings also have first-year head coach K.J. Kindler's squad ranked in the top 10 on three of the four events.  The Sooners are 10th on the uneven bars, ninth on the balance beam and sixth on vault.

After starting the season with a near upset of then-No. 4 Alabama, Oklahoma improved its record to 2-1 with a Jan. 19 home victory over Central Michigan and No. 22 Missouri.

Senior Brittney Koncak-Schumann, Big 12 Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 16, took the all-around and balance beam titles against the Tigers and Chippewas, posting a career-high 9.95 on the beam.  Koncak-Schumann is currently No. 3 in the national all-around rankings and No. 2 nationally on the beam.

Oklahoma is back in action Saturday, Jan. 27 in Denton, Texas, taking on Texas Woman's University, Centenary and George Washington.
