NORMAN, Okla. The University of Oklahoma men's and women's track and field squads hit the road for weekend meets in Albuquerque, N.M., and Fayetteville, Ark., in what will be the team's season openers after inclement weather scratched last week's scheduled action.
The bulk of the team travels to the University of Arkansas for the Razorback Invitational while OU's women sprints corps competes at the Modrall Sperling Lobo Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico beginning Friday.
The Sooners will have a new look and feel as 26 of the 49 student-athletes scheduled to compete will be wearing Crimson and Cream for the first time in anger.

All-Americans Kevin Bookout, ranked No. 3 nationally in the shot put, and Chip Heuser, No. 4 in pole vault, headline OU's participation. For Bookout, it will be his first collegiate indoor meet after spending the past four winters on the basketball team.
The first meet of the season will be highly competitive as several notable teams are in the field at both events. The Oklahoma men, ranked 18th in the Trackwire Top 25, face No. 2 Arkansas as well as in-state foes Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts and Tulsa. The No. 3 LSU and No. 9 Texas A&M women compete against the Sooners in New Mexico.
Preliminary races at the Lobo Invitational begin at 7 p.m. CST. Field events at the Razorback Invitational begin at 3 p.m. and track events begin at 6 p.m.
