Messina Earns MPSF Honors

NORMAN, Okla. Oklahoma junior Jacob Messina has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week for Jan. 15.

The Matthews, N.C. native is the conference's first honoree of the season.

At the Rocky Mountain Open, Jan. 12-13 in Colorado Springs, Colo., Messina came away with the all-around title (51.000) and led the defending NCAA champion Sooners to their 35th consecutive win.

In the event finals on Jan. 13, Messina claimed the still rings crown with a 9.1 and finished second on the pommel horse (8.5) and high bar (8.7).

In the most recent GymInfo rankings, Messina is fourth nationally in the all-around, and is in the top 20 on the pommel horse (18th), high bar (17th), parallel bars (T-14th) and still rings (T-11th).
