NORMAN, Okla. -- One of the most interesting things to do after watching a Sooner game is to compare your opinion against the media. TV, radio, newspapers, internet -- it's amazing how many people make their living on post-game analysis.

Here's a chance to look at the game from a different perspective.

SoonerSports.com presents links to analysis, reaction and opinion from the national media and the opposing team. Much like our "Eye on the Opponent" series, this is a chance to catch a few things you might have missed...

Perhaps the storied atmosphere of the Oklahoma's Memorial Stadium and its crowd of 82,346 produced some early butterflies in the Blue Raiders' bellies. Maybe MTSU (2-2) was just drastically overmatched. Either way, the Blue Raiders balked on any opportunity to delay the inevitable rout, committing a handful of costly errors in the game's opening minutes.

Look out, Texas. Oklahoma is coming off its biggest blowout in nearly three years, and the Sooners still aren't satisfied. Oklahoma pummeled Middle Tennessee 59-0 Saturday in its most lopsided victory since a 77-0 rout of Texas A&M on Nov. 8, 2003. It was both a statement, coming off a 34-33 loss at Oregon that turned on an onside kick incorrectly...

More important than the opening win against Iowa State is the Dallas showdown with Oklahoma. The teams have represented the South Division in the Big 12 title game each of the past seven seasons, and Texas in 2001 was the only one to overcome a Red River loss on its way to the South title.

If MTSU's players don't have the song "Boomer Sooner" ringing in their ears today, well ... they have a short memory. It was played over and over and over and over Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Whether there were visions of grandeur Saturday when MTSU played Oklahoma is anybody's guess, but as most expected, it was a woodshed outing...

The Watchman is kind of warming to the idea of Peterson, not Smith or Slaton, being the eventual choice. And, no, it's not because of what Peterson did against the overmatched Blue Raiders. It's just that Peterson has been just as good -- maybe even better -- than those two with less support around him.

MTSU coach Rick Stockstill didn't expect the Blue Raider offense to move the ball up and down the field against Oklahoma. He did, however, hope they would at least the move the chains enough to keep Oklahoma's offense off the field for extended periods of time. Unfortunately for MTSU, its offensive output was non-existent against the Sooners...

Oklahoma dominated out of the gates, scoring early and often, and holding the Blue Raiders scoreless throughout. Middle Tennessee mustered just seven first downs, barely edging out the number of turnovers it accumulated (5). Game balls go to Adrian Peterson and Paul Thompson. The duo combined for six touchdowns and 381 yards...

"I thought our defense played hard and tackle pretty good. That back of theirs, he's a dang good one. He might be the best I've ever seen in my coaching career. He's fast, he's strong and he's explosive," Stockstill said. "But any time you turn it over and they start their first drive inside the 50, you can't do that. You can't give good teams like Oklahoma...

The team played with an attitude and with frightening precision on both sides of the ball for its most complete game of the year. Paul Thompson is doing a fantastic job of spreading the ball around and threw some nice deep passes. The defensive line finally started to play up to its talent.

A little comic relief came in MTSU's loss to No. 17 Oklahoma Saturday, even if the Blue Raiders weren't laughing. Perhaps the loudest cheer from the 84,326 fans in Oklahoma's Memorial Stadium came when an on-field official's call was confirmed by instant replay in the Sooners' favor. Two calls reviewed by instant replay in the final 1:12 went against...

Adrian Peterson put on a show against Middle Tennessee, as Oklahoma made up for last week's loss with a 59-0 stomping of the Blue Raiders. Last performance: Peterson rushed for 128 yards on 27 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Second chance at first impressions: Two blown replay calls? Two! The Red River Shootout won't have national title implications, but it will be the best regular-season game of the year. Quick memo to Mack: Ditch the zone-read play, line up in the I-formation and run behind that massive line. Then use play-action to protect quarterback Colt McCoy...

Oklahoma rises 1 spot to number 16 this week in the AP college football poll after the Sooners' 59-0 rout of Middle Tennessee. Ohio State is still #1 with 59 of a possible 65 first place votes. Auburn, Southern California, West Virginia and Florida round out the top 5. Other ranked Big 12 Conference teams are #7 Texas, # 21 Nebraska...

MTSU gained only 95 total yards, the lowest mark in the Division I-A era which began in 1999. Four of the team's five turnovers were committed by the offense, including Clint Marks' interception returned for a touchdown. Confusion in the unit stretched from the opening possession with two timeouts called in the first 40 seconds to an MTSU...

"We don't need to carry on an argument about it. It's not any argument between OU and Oregon," Boren said. "But what needs to happen ... is to say, what can we learn from this? It should be a learning opportunity. What we've learned is, it's very important to the integrity of intercollegiate athletics that you not only have fair officiating...

Stoops said he welcomed an open date to give the Sooners two weeks to prepare for the Longhorns, who dominated OU 45-12 last year. His players agreed “It will be a long wait,'' Peterson said, “but we need it for injuries to heal so we can come out in full force against Texas.''

"We have to forget about this. Two months, ago (Oklahoma was) the No. 2 or 3 team in the country. ... You know they were better than us," Stockstill said. "The thing I was proud of was that our guys didn't quit, and I told them that in the locker room (after Saturday's loss). "They were down 45-zip at the half (to Oklahoma), but they kept fighting...

"I remember calling that sideline when Oklahoma State took OU out of the national championship. I was in the middle of the field," said Ames, the instant replay official for Oklahoma's home game against Middle Tennessee on Saturday. "That's pressure but that's a system that we've been in and we were confident. We knew we had that.

Bumps, bruises, twists, sprains and ruptures are taking their toll on the No. 7 Longhorns (3-1, 1-0 Big 12) this season. At least one defensive starter has missed every game. The hope is that everything heals up before the Oct. 7 matchup with Big 12 South rival Oklahoma.
