NORMAN, Okla. -- UAB coaches and players met with the media on Monday in Birmingham to discuss Saturday's game at Oklahoma.
The game kicks off at 6 p.m. at Owen Field in Norman. TBS will televise the game to a national audience.
It will mark the first meeting between the two schools.
UAB HEAD COACH WATSON BROWN
On the team's overall goals for this season:
"We have two main goals for this season, win the conference championship and become bowl eligible. Those are our goals every year."
On UAB's starting quarterback situation: "It was a battle. No one won out, Chris is going out there first but there is not a starter. The reason that I am sending Chris out there first is because he has been there before. It will play out from here on in."
On going to play Oklahoma in the first game of the year: "I'm nervous. We have a lot of question marks. I think we will be really good on defense. We have a lot of young kids on offense and I am ready to see them react to game situations. Oklahoma's defense may be the best defense I have played in the 12 years that I have been here."
On how UAB's game plan has changed since the suspension of Oklahoma's quarterback Rhett Bomar: "It is obviously a concern, Oklahoma closed practice to everyone, so no one know what they are doing. Thompson is obviously an athletic kid who is 6-4, 230 pounds and can play wide receiver. We are going to have to react on the run after the game starts and we see what he is doing."

SOPHOMORE DB KEVIN SANDERS
On the arrival of game week preparations:
"This is what we have been working so hard for during the spring, summer and fall camp. Last night I could barely sleep because it is the week of our first game this season. I am just excited and ready to get out there and play."
On playing a Top-10 team in Oklahoma:
"It is a wonderful opportunity to have a chance to play against a top team like Oklahoma. I know they have a great defense, and I personally feel we have a great defense, so I know it is going to be a real battle."
On preparing for the Sooners without Rhett Bomar: "We are going to practice with the same mindset and attitude we had before they announced we wasn't eligible. We are playing Oklahoma, so they are going to have some good quarterbacks who are capable of winning."

SENIOR RB COREY WHITEOn the excitement of starting the season: "It is going to be exciting and everyone is ready to go. We are a little tired of practicing against one another. We just want to go into Oklahoma and play hard. We have nothing to lose because everyone is thinking we aren't going to win. We have been practicing so hard against each other all year for this. I just can't believe it is finally here. I feel like we are going to be ready."
On whether intimidation will be a factor at Oklahoma:
"I don't think we will be intimidated at all. We are going to be happy to go out there because we feel like we can win. I have played at South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida, so it isn't going to be anything for me. I am just going to be happy to be out on the field. I want to go out there and perform and do the best I can."
On the depth at the running back position: "Our depth will help us a lot. We have four running backs and all of us have different styles. We still can pass and we are going to pass. Teams will try and pack it in on us, because they know we have a strong running game and strong offensive line. I feel like our quarterback is capable of making big plays as well."

SENIOR QB CHRIS WILLIAMS
On nerves heading into Oklahoma game: "I am ready to go and I cannot wait. I am calm and anxious for Saturday to get here."
About confidence in himself and his team: "My confidence is sky high. I believe the thing that helped me to get to this point is having to wait and be patient for my turn. It is paying off now and I couldn't be more excited."
On having to follow in the footsteps of former UAB quarterback Darrell Hackney: "I don't feel any pressure on playing the way Darrell played. We have a totally different system now, than when he played here. I have to do different things within the offense, so there is no pressure. I makes it easier knowing there is experienced players all around me."
