NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma completed its second scrimmage of the 2006 preseason drills Wednesday night at the rugby fields near the Lloyd Noble Center.
Unlike the first scrimmage last Saturday, this one was closed. The Sooners went through a normal practice and then spent the last 45 minutes of the workout in a scrimmage format.
Statistics were not kept, but OU head coach Bob Stoops said his team performed well.
"We've still got a lot of polishing to do, but we're making progress," he said.
Stoops cited a pair of pass-catchers in evaluating the Sooners' play.
"Malcolm Kelly had some nice catches," he said. "Jermaine Gresham is really a special player. He caught a nice ball or two today. On one play he was dragging about eight guys along."
Kelly missed the first scrimmage while attending his brother's wedding.
OU was without center Jon Cooper on Wednesday, but Stoops characterized Cooper's injury as, "nothing serious." Chase Beeler and Chris Messner worked at center in Cooper's absence.
The remaining Oklahoma practices are closed. The team will be back on the practice field Thursday with a pair of workouts before single practices on Friday and Saturday.
