NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma soccer team opened the 2006 preseason in successful fashion on Tuesday with a 4-1 victory over visiting TCU in Norman. It was the first game of the preseason for both squads. The game was split up into three 30 minute periods.
The Sooner offense was led by senior Kady Kelly and freshman Daphne Fitzpatrick, who combined to score three of the four goals in the contest. The duo were also responsible for eight of the team's 12 shots.
"Going into the game, I wasn't sure if we were ready," said OU head coach Randy Evans. "We have never played a game this early in the preseason. I was thrilled with scoring four goals but we still have a lot of work to do."

Kelly put OU on the board in the 16th minute on an assist from junior Allyson Kucera. Seven minutes later, Fitzpatrick struck on an unassisted goal before the first period ended.
After a scoreless second period, TCU brought itself within one goal on Anna Paulson's tally in the 73rd minute. The Sooners quickly countered with two more goals before the game concluded.
In the 80th minute, it was Fitzpatrick and Kelly striking again. Kelly created some open space on the right side of the box before crossing the ball into Fitzpatrick for OU's third goal in the 80th minute.
"I thought Daphne was tremendous out there today," added Evans. "I also thought Andrea (Hurley) did a great job in the back and proved why she is our senior captain."
With a 3-1 lead, Oklahoma struck again less than a minute later on a score off the foot of junior Lauren Harris (assisted by junior Shana All).
The Sooners finished the game with a 12-11 advantage in shots, including a 7-3 edge after the first 30 minute period. Fitzpatrick led the team with five shots, while Kelly added three and Harris connected for two more.
OU will conclude the preseason on Friday with a 7 p.m. contest at North Texas before opening the 2006 regular season on Aug. 26 against Washington in Hawai'i.
