Horton Earns Weekly MPSF Honor

Horton Leads USA to Win in Paris

NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma gymnast Jonathan Horton placed second in the all-around competition at the France/Switzerland/USA tri-meet, leading the U.S. to the team title.

Team USA, coached by OU head coach Mark Williams, finished with a score of 353.05, ahead of France (351.90) and Switzerland (343.10).

Horton, a Houston native, totaled an 87.00 to finish behind France's Raphael Wignanitz (89.10) for the all-around title.  Team USA's David Durante finished third with a 86.95 total.

Joining Horton and Durante on the American team were Guillermo Alvarez, Alex Artemev, David Sender, Kevin Tan.

The format for the tri-meet, held at the Robert Charpentier Palace of Sports in Issy les Moulineaux, France, had five men competing on each apparatus with the top four scores counting toward the team total.

Horton's second-place finish adds to an already impressive resume.

Since arriving at OU, Horton has consistently maintained a spot on the U.S. senior national team and competed in a number of international competitions.

He was second in the all-around competition at the 2006 Winter Cup, following an eighth-place finish in 2005.

This past March at the Tyson American Cup, one of the world's premiere international gymnastics events, Horton took first place on the still rings and was second on the vault and the floor exercise to earn the all-around title.
