Women's Golf Hosts Free Junior Clinic
April 06, 2006 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. OU women's golf head coach Carol Ludvigson will host a free golf clinic for junior girls at the Charlie Coe Golf Learning Center Saturday, April 8 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The clinic will feature instruction from Ludvigson and assistant coach M.J. Desbiens on swing mechanics, mental preparation, team building, rules, etiquette as well as interaction with the members of the OU women's golf team.
“The reason why we are doing the clinic is to keep young girls involved in the game of golf,” said Ludvigson. “It also gives the student-athletes a chance to get involved in the community.”
Combined, Ludvigson and Desbiens have over 30 years of college coaching experience and have led the women's golf team to 12 tournament championships, including first place honors at the 2000 Big 12 Championship.
Ludvigson is a LPGA Class A teacher. The former Sooner golfer's resume includes seven coach of the year honors, three conference titles and five NCAA National Championship appearances. As a member of the OU women's golf team, Desbiens recorded 15 top-20 finishes and eight top-10 finishes, including a 10th place finish at the 1991 Big Eight Championship when the Sooners took home the tournament title.
“The clinic is meant to be instructional and also very fun,” said Ludvigson.
The OU's women's golf team will also participate in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic golf tournament at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course beginning Sunday, April 9. The tournament will host 17 NCAA Division I women's golf teams, including eight Big 12 schools.
To register for the clinic, email your name and address to mjdesbiens@ou.edu or call (405) 325-8485. Admission is free for the junior clinic and Susie Maxwell tournament.
