NORMAN, Okla. University of Oklahoma gymnasts Brian Carr, Jamie Henderson, Jacob Messina, James Myers and Joseph Weaver were named to the 2006 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference team Tuesday. It was the second straight honor for Carr and the third straight for Myers.
Henderson, who received All-America honors this season on the pommel horse and still rings, majors in studio arts. Myers picked up his third straight honor while majoring in chemistry. Carr, a 2006 All-American on the pommel horse, majors in petroleum engineering.
First-year winners Messina and Weaver major in environmental sciences and university studies, respectively.
The student-athletes were nominated for this award by their institutions on the basis of the following criteria:
1. 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.
2. Student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received and must be at least a sophomore academically.
3. Student-athlete must have competed in fifty percent or more of the institution's competition in the student-athlete's respective sport.
