Sooners Ready for NCAA Championships

Corvallis, Ore. The University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics team had its practice session this morning in preparation for the NCAA National Championships starting Thursday, April 20, in the Gill Coliseum.

Today, the Sooners used the time to get used to the environment and equipment; sharing the floor with Michigan, Utah and Alabama.

OU started on vault, moved to bars, then beam and finished on floor. This will be the same rotation for the squad in tomorrow's preliminary session at 1 p.m.

OU will be the No. 2 seed in the first session with No. 1 Alabama, No. 3 Nebraska, No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 LSU and No. 6 Utah. Seedings are based on who had the highest scores at each regional meet.

The top three teams from each session will advance to the team finals on Friday when a national champion will be crowned. On Saturday, April 22, individual finals will be held to conclude the championships meet.

Oklahoma enters its third consecutive NCAA National Championships and sixth all time. OU will look to qualify for the team finals for the first time in program history.

The Sooners qualified for the championships on April 7, after wining the Central Regional in Baton Rouge, La., at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Sooners finished with a 196.375 which was the fourth highest score out of all six regions.

The last time OU competed at the Gill Coliseum was in 2004 when they won the West Regional.
