Dye Leading the Way in Lincoln
April 17, 2006 | Women's Golf
NORMAN, Okla. - After one round of the Big 12 Tournament in Lincoln, Neb., the Oklahoma women's golf team is in 12th place with a 317 (+29). The Sooners are 16 strokes behind the Cowgirls of Oklahoma State, who are in first place.
“We lost a lot of shots on the last four or five holes,” said OU head coach Carol Ludvigson. “We struggled hitting from the fairways and when you miss the fairways here you shoot bogeys.”
Leading the way for Oklahoma is true freshman Kendall Dye, who shot a 77 (+5) and is tied for 16th place. Junior Jaclyn Stelzer carded a 78 (+6), good for a 27th place tie on the day. With first-round scores of 81 (+9), lone senior Amparo Gala and sophomore Kelly Jacques are tied for 43rd place. Sophomore Heather Wright is tied for 47th after recording an 82 (+10).
“We are hoping to forget about today, shoot low tomorrow and move up the leader board,” said Ludvigson.
The three-day event will be in a 54 hole format with 18 holes being played each day. The second round will begin Tuesday morning. The tournament is being played at the 6,201-yard, par-72 Country Club of Lincoln.
