NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma wrapped up its 2006 spring practices on Thursday after completing the 15th session on a hot afternoon at Owen Field.
OU worked in full pads with the first half of practice dedicated to position drills and the return game. The workout was to include a scrimmage, but Stoops admitted that after making it through the first 14 practices with no injuries, he "chickened out."
"We just didn't want to risk anything," he said.
The team session was more physical than normal and resembled a scrimmage at times. The Sooners scored a pair of touchdowns. Allen Patrick ran for a five-yard score, while TE Joe Jon Finley hauled in a five-yard pass from Rhett Bomar.

The longest play of the scrimmage was a 49-yard pass from Joey Halzle to WR Eric Huggins. Stoops liked the improvement he saw during the spring practices, but said there is still room for improvement.
"I'm not sure we have accomplished anything yet," he said. "We got better."
"We're good on defense. I especially liked what I saw in the linebackers and secondary and we are deep at end."
The coach also appreciated the efforts of a thin offensive line. "They worked hard and were competitive," he said. "They got a lot of reps and I think they recognized the opportunity they had to make improvement."
The coaches and players still have plenty of film to watch from the spring. Conditioning and weight training work will keep the team busy through the summer. But the Sooners will have to wait until August to hit the field again.
